The storyline in this Final Fantasy game... Wow. I am quite impressed after hearing everyone down the game. The storyline is pretty Darn good. It reminds me a lot of Final Fantasy 7 and that is my favorite so this is hitting good with me.
As for the linearity issues... Yea, until Chapter 11. In Chapter 11 you can do whatever and I can see why you had to wait until then. My xbox lags because the graphics are so impressive. I like the lag because it says, ya we took this much time on this for you and your enjoyment. I enjoyed the linearity either way, I love the way game is developed.
The time transition are beautiful. I played the game all day Thursday, from morning till night and the time of the game went with the time of my day. Morning, evening, night. Amazing.
Anyway, the difficulty of this game is perfect. It's so well balanced that it makes the game a challenge. The battle system is by far the most fun I have ever played and it maybe the best of all time. It's modern, fast, and straight up awsome.
The soundtrack.... the orchestration is amazing. It feels a little distant from final fantasy seeing as how it's a different composer. But, I like the soundtrack a lot. The battle theme is beautiful as is everything else, but I am just wondering how would Nobuo Uematsu have done it.
As for the cast. Wow, realistic... true realism. I can relate to every one of them and the way they interact is so realistic. Square really did a grand job on this one.
What don't I like about this game? Well, I don't like training for battles or for upgrades. I have had to train for 2 boss fights and I have done a bit of training for weapon/armor upgrades. I don't like doing that because it distances you from the story.
All in all though, it's a great game so far and has potential to beat out Final Fantasy 6 for my 2nd favorite Final Fantasy, but I think it will take Final Fantasy 5's spot for my 3rd favorite.
Either way, I love the game's experience and I highly reccomend it and just play through it and absorb the story.
